Haunted by Death Release Date & Giveaway Info

It's finally here. The day that all authors wait for, eager to enjoy, yet it never lasts long enough. Kind of like a writer's Christmas Day. :)

Release Day!

It's been pushed, postponed, and finally pushed one last time (yeah, it was supposed to be this coming Friday) until it finally settled on December 7th.

I know you're probably thinking, "Took ya' long enough." And I agree 100%. However, with everything my family has endured over the last few months (FIL's illness and hospitalization, ending sadly with his passing) I'm surprised the book made it to a 2012 release date at all.

Anyway, onward and upward. What will be, will be.

Haunted by Death is the fourth book in the Liz Baker series. It will be available on Amazon Kindle, B&N Nook, Smashwords, and in paperback. I'll post the links when it all goes live. On the big release day, I'll be holding a giveaway. The winner will receive a box of Haunted by Death and Ambrosiacs goodies including an e-copy of the book, key chain, desk calendar, playing cards, coffee mug and poster. And whatever else I come across to throw in. ;)

The giveaway will be held here on the blog through a Rafflecopter. Be sure to come back on December 7th and join in for your chance at winning.

For now, here's the back cover blurb for Haunted by Death:

Liz Baker always saw herself as a restless bar owner in her small town. She didn't want the white picket fence, two kids, husband, and a dog. Oh, no. Liz wanted more. It didn't matter what, just more.

Now she has more, and it's not as fun as she'd hoped.

Not only does Liz have to deal with monsters, demons, and being a half-vampire daughter to evil, but now her ex-love has announced his speedy wedding to another woman and wants Liz's help. However, Liz steps in to more than just tending bar when she agrees to help out at the reception.

ARVLFC Undead Con & Wolf Gift Ball

Well, I didn't get around to writing this post last week like I intended, but never fear, rambling is here!  ;)

The trip was long (a 9 hr drive from Georgia), but I had a pretty good time.  New Orleans wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It wasn't bad, but not as great as everyone had built it up to be.  Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the zoo, aquarium, cemeteries, Steamboat Natchez, French Market, Harrah's Casino, and the Wolf Gift Ball, but we did all of that in three days. I couldn't imagine staying longer than that. Our fourth day was spent asking, "What should we do now?"

Anyway, the Wolf Gift Ball was a BLAST!  I had more fun at that than anything else the entire trip.  I enjoyed seeing all the costumes; hung with my good friend and fellow author, Robin Renee Ray, for the first time (as well as several other people I've only spoken with online); and ended up quite tipsy by the time our taxi took us back to the hotel at 2am.  LOL!  It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year. :)

The Undead Con wasn't as big as I expected it to be...being in New Orleans and all.  The conference I attend in Lumberton, NC seems to have spoiled me with a large turn out.  There weren't as many attendees as I thought there would be.  I guess most people only come for the balls, and not the conference.

Though I was a participant in this years Undead Con (merely an attendee), I did get a bit of a shout out from my wonderful Robin. I sat in the audience and watched as she spoke on a panel, not knowing she planned to call me out.  TWICE!  I felt the blush creeping up my face as she declared she wouldn't be the writer she is today without Christie Silvers...and she points straight at me!  LMAO!  I wish I had a video of it!

I love you, Robin!!!!!

Okay, enough rambling. Onto the pictures.....

Hubby & me at the aquarium.
Robin Renee Ray & lil ole me.

My sister tried her best to get a picture of us with the wolfman. LOL.
I don't know what her name is, but we thought she was beautiful.

For a bigger collection of images stop by my Facebook page and check them out. There are a lot of them. You've been warned!  :D

Upcoming Event: Undead Con & Wolf Gift Ball

A week from today I'll be on my way to New Orleans for the Undead Con and the Anne Rice Wolf Gift Ball. If you're planning to attend, it's time to get those tickets ordered. ASAP! The ARVLFC will stop taking ticket orders on October 21st, so you better jump on it if you're planning to hang with me and other authors. Order today!

I'm super excited for my first trip to New Orleans. I've always wanted to visit, but never found the time to go. Now that it's "work" I'm definitely finding the time to go.  LOL! If only everyone could enjoy their work as much as I do.  ;)

I'll also get to meet up with my wonder friend, fan, and fellow author Robin Renee Ray... for the first time, face to face!!  I'm sure there will be far too many hugs, giggles, and loud, extreme, howling laughter. Least of all, the constant "shop talk" that always happens when two authors get together. My poor husband will be so bored (you should have seen him when I was at Book 'Em NC).  LOL!

I will be in attendance at all the events (Meet-n-Greet, Undead Con, Wolf Gift Ball) with the exception of the happenings on Sunday, October 28th. With a 9 hour drive between NOLA and home, I'll be heading out by noon in order to get home in time to pick up my kiddies and get them into their own beds before starting a new week. Thank goodness for my mommy and her willingness to take my little hellions for four days so I can have a good time.

I love you, Mom!  :D

My little sister and her husband will be going with me, so if you see them tagging along be sure to say hi. They won't know what to think about all this conference stuff, and I'm looking forward to introducing them to my author buddies.

I hope to see you in New Orleans!

Halloween Giveaway 2012

It's that time of the year, again. Time for my annual Halloween Giveaway and my favorite time of the year! This year it's going to be a little different than in previous years, so be sure to read the following closely.

This year the giveaway will run from October 15th through October 31st. Each person will be able to collect multiple entries simply by completing a small list of "tasks". However, the main aspect of the giveaway will be the number of new fans we can bring over to the Facebook page. The more fans brought over, the more goodies at the end of the giveaway.

Starting on day 1, each day we can bring over at least 10 new fans to the Facebook page one more item will be added to the giveaway box. I'm starting the giveaway with the first three books of the Liz Baker series, in paperback form, autographed. On day 2 (after 10 more new fans) I'll add an Ambrosiacs coffee mug. On day 3, I'll add an Amazon gift certificate. Day 4, a bottle of nail polish. Day 5, candies. And on and on until Halloween!

And if we get 10 new fans for every single day of the giveaway, I'll add one more bonus goodie...bringing the grand total a whopping 20 items in the box!

The amount of goodies in the giveaway box on Halloween will be completely up to how many people participate in bringing new and potential Ambrosiacs over to the Facebook page. There could be 3 books or 20 items at the end. Let's see what you guys and gals can do! I hope I'm giving away 20 items instead of just 3.  ;) I'll keep a list of current goodies below.

Winner will be announced on November 2, 2012.

To enter, start completing tasks through the Rafflecopter below!

Good luck!

Haunted by Death Release Postponed

Many of you reading this are friends/fans/followers on Facebook and Twitter, so you already know the difficulties my family has been going through the last month. But for those who don't...

Tim's dad, my father-in-law, has been extremely sick due to COPD, emphysema, and a mass on one lung. We started the month of September with one of his routine breathing "attacks." That led into a nine day hospital stay, during which he developed a DVT in his left leg.

After that, there was a week in a nursing home for rehabilitation on the left leg. After a week there he had another severe "attack" and was sent to the emergency room. That was ten days ago. FIL has gone downhill from there. Not just downhill, but a landslide down the side of a mountain.

He isn't expected to survive to the coming weekend.  :(

What does this have to do with the next Liz Baker book being postponed?  A lot, actually. Since my husband is an only child I've been dealing with his dad's problems. I'm the one watching over him, I took him to doctor appointments the week before this started, I'm the one he asks for when he's lucid enough to want me, and I'm the one who sits at the hospital with him. At the end of the day, I'm out of time.

Therefore, the release for Haunted by Death must be postponed until I have time to give it the time it deserves. I was hoping to have it released before I head to New Orleans for the Undead Con at the end of the month, but that's just not going to happen.

All in all, I will get it released, but it won't be until November.  I am so sorry to all of you waiting patiently (and some not-so-patiently, lol) for the next installment of Liz's life, but please bare with me until we get the matter of Tim's dad taken care of. The nurses and doctors aren't giving him long left to live, and we want to be there as much as possible for what time he does have.

Lots of love to you all!

Characters: Getting to Know Chad Langford

Today we're going to learn a little bit about Chad Langford.

Chad is the resident bouncer in Liz's bar, Athena's Ambrosia. At first look, he appears sullen, sour, gruff, but in truth he's a tender soul who wants nothing more than to live a happy life.

Chad Langford was a police officer on the Tremmel Crossing police force when something awful happened. To this day it's a deeply held secret as to what that something was. All we do know is it resulted in Chad "retiring" from the force in his early 30's with a substantial amount of compensation and a lot of mental baggage to last him a lifetime. Liz hopes one day he'll feel safe enough to tell her what happened, but she doesn't push him for the information.

Thirty-five with the rock hard abs of a twenty-five year old, all the ladies love Chad, though he'd rather most of their attentions were elsewhere. His hazel eyes and close cropped hair offer an aura of roughness to his sexy exterior, without a hint of his true inner self. Chad might be a fighter, but he'd rather be a lover. He wants the "Happily Ever After," but will he ever really get it? And will that be with Liz?

Feel free to ask Chad any questions you think of and we'll see if he's up to answering.  :D

Stay tuned next week when it'll be Rick's turn at Getting to Know the Characters of Liz Baker's world.

Characters: Getting to Know Liz Baker

Welcome to the first installment of Getting to Know the Characters. I will try to do one character each week, probably on Thursdays, from the Liz Baker series. We'll start it off with...

Meet Liz.  She's our reluctant heroine in my Liz Baker series.  Liz's life was simple; she thought she was content. Lingering thoughts in the back of her head suggested she might enjoy a more eventful life though.  But she knew she didn't want the husband, family, and white picket fence in her small town of Tremmel Crossing, Georgia. The town was too bland, too boring.

That is, before Liz found out the truth...

Born Lizbeth May Baker, she is the offspring of a human woman with Gypsy heritage and a male vampire with a god complex, though previously thought to be the prodigy of her abusive stepfather. Liz has an older sister, Jesika, who lives hours away and held a grudge against her for many years.

Liz owns a bar called Athena's Ambrosia. This is her pride and joy. She designed and decorated it from the ground up. She loves her loyal staff members like family, and they'd do almost anything for her. She has many loyal patrons, as well; people she's known for years, looks out for when they've had too much, and listens to when they tell the stories of their lives. Liz loves Athena's and all who enjoy their time there.

With a love of brightly colored nail polish, tight jeans, corsets, and tall leather boots, Liz commands attention from any she finds worthy of her curvaceous endowments, and doesn't bat an eyelash at a rambunctious romp in a cemetery. That's where she first discovers the dangers and secrets of her true parentage, and thus, her crazy, wild future in life.

To start your trip into Liz's life check out Time for Death (Liz Baker, book 1). It's always only $0.99 on Amazon Kindle, B&N Nook, and Smashwords.

If you have any questions you'd like to ask Liz post them below.  :D

My Current Work in Progress

A big thanks to author P. M. Terrell for tagging me into this Author Event. I'm always up for sharing more about what I'm working on. Sometimes I just don't have time to do it. To participate I have to answer 10 questions about my current work in progress, and then invite five more authors to carry the event forward the next week.

So here we go...

10 Questions About My Work in Progress

1. What are you working on now?
I'm currently working on the fourth book in my Liz Baker series, Haunted by Death. This story takes Liz deeper into the paranormal world she was pretty much shoved into kicking and screaming. Being a dhampiresa (half vampire, half human) isn't as fun as you'd think it would be.

2. Can you give us a sneak peek into the story?
At the end of Killer Intentions, Liz is recovering from an abduction by one of her many half-siblings. Her birth father, Gregory, has decreed that Liz will come to him of her own free will, or not at all. Leaving Liz fuming and determined such a thing will NEVER happen. Haunted by Death picks up with the funeral of her attorney-slash-friend, Jim Conrad. After the funeral, Liz comes home to her current roommates, Monty the werewolf and Aimee, another half-sibling who previously tried to murder her.  Yeah, it's a jumble of craziness and extreme stress for our spunky heroine.

3. Why did Liz let Aimee move in with her?
Aimee is another half-vampire, half-human child born of their mutual birth father, and vampire, Gregory. In book 3 we learned that Gregory has fathered several children with human women and he's now attempting to pull his offspring into his dangerous clutches. However, with Liz determined to stay as far away from him as she can, Gregory sent Aimee to "convince" her to come to him. Aimee took it upon herself to use a gun. In the end, Liz, Chad, and Monty decide it's safer for Liz and Aimee if they take her under their wings and protect her, instead of sending her back to Gregory. Thus, Aimee living in Liz's guest room.

4. Why is Liz so reluctant to be taken in by her birth father?
Gregory is evil. Pure evil. Evil with a snide, sneaky side. He seems to want to rule the world, but hasn't really said exactly what he plans to do with all of his children. He wants Liz to come to him, but never tells her why. All of the signs point to some sort of evil world domination, and Liz wants nothing to do with that. Everywhere Gregory goes death seems to follow. Just look at all the death and pain Marcus left behind in book one when Gregory sent him to retrieve Liz. Poor Rick will never forget being strung up and nearly drained to death.

5. Speaking of Rick, will he manage to find happiness now that he's no longer Liz's bed-buddy?
After having a rough time in book 3, Rick seems to have pulled himself out of a slump and moved forward with his life in Haunted by Death. There will be a surprising turn of events for our sweet Rick. He might want to have that tattoo of Liz's astrological sign lasered off soon.  ;)

6. What happens with the "staff" at Adele's estate?
The staff will definitely make an appearance in book 4. Liz's new attorney is trying to convince her it would be best if she moved to the estate and took advantage of all her new found wealth allows her. Liz, however, refuses to leave her home and business. Her bar, Athena's Ambrosia, is her life, her home, and the one thing that centers her back into the normal human world when the paranormal world closes in around her.

7. Can't her bar staff take care of the bar while she's away?
Oh yes, most definitely. Liz has some very trustworthy people on staff who are always ready to help out when she needs it, but Liz is an independent woman who thinks she needs no one. She wants to do it herself, to make herself feel needed and productive.

8. Will we see more monsters in book 4?
Yes! Book four will have the usual vampires, werewolves, and demons we've come to love (or hate) in the previous three books, but this time we'll have a dash of ghosts thrown in. There's nothing like a ghost to disrupt a good time. :)

9. Where will the ghosts be?
A big event will be held at a local historic site in Haunted by Death. An old homeplace-slash-historic hotel full of old furnishings, clothes, and personal items from occupants long gone is the back drop for this event. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you like at like I do), these items also hold their owners' spirits locked in turmoil. **An author's side note: I promised the local historical society that I wouldn't burn down the hotel in my story. So no fires or magical explosions in this book. LOL! **

10. Will there be more books in the Liz Baker series?
The answer is a resounding YES! I have many future books planned for Liz. She has far to many adventures to go on for us to stop now. Besides, she's too darn cocky to let me just ignore her and write something else.  ;)

Look for Haunted by Death (Liz Baker, book 4) in late October.

The Wright Hotel & Liz Baker book 4

Last week I toured a local historical site a few minutes down the road from my house.  This site will be in the next Liz Baker book as the location for a wedding.  And, of course, other ruckus in Liz's life will occur here.  ;)

Since I had a few questions about the location and its history, a couple of the local history buffs took me on tour.  They answered my questions about the venue being used for a wedding (where's the bride's room, groom's, reception?), and didn't bat an eyelash when I asked if anyone had died there.  That's a sign of a true history buff!  :D

All in all, it was quite the informational visit.  I now have photos and written details that will be included in book 4, and Liz will learn all sorts of new things about the world around her.

The hotel's name will change in my book, and the names of owners, ghosts, events will of course be changed, but the eat and bones of the hotel will remain intact.  Oh, and I even got to see the basement!  Now that is a great basement for ghosts. Reminds me of my great-grandmother's old root cellar.

Anyway, I can't wait to finish writing book 4 with all these neat little details of the Wright Hotel included.  If you'd like to learn more about this beautiful building check out the website for the Whitfield-Murray Historical Society.  http://www.whitfield-murrayhistoricalsociety.org/historicproperties/wrighthotel.html

Reviews Round Up!

As most of you know, I was doing a blog tour last month for the Liz Baker series, with focus on book 1, Time for Death.  During those three weeks the book received several new reviews.  So I thought I'd compile a few and share them with you.

"Liz is the type of heroine you just love. She is smart, sassy, strong, and stubborn. ...  I could see myself going to the bar and hanging out with Liz and Rick. Marcus is the kind of vampire you love to hate. ... twists and turns that had me staying up late into the night.."  Sabrina at Paranormal Reads {Read More}

"What a great read, Time For Death is (definitely) not your everyday vampire book and that is one of the reasons I liked it so much. There are some great twists and turns that will leave you wanting more."  Starry Night Book Reviews {Read More}

"One of the very best things about Christie’s writing is that she knows how to tell a story and how to create a series. By the time I finished TIME FOR DEATH, I wanted to be Liz and have all the wonderful people in my life that were sharing hers, and maybe even a Marcus of my own."  Ponderings by Lucinda Gunnin {Read More}

"Liz Baker is a great character, she is honest and strong, and has a filthy mouth. lol. I liked it that Liz had a potty mouth, it showed her character perfectly and also showed us that Christie Silvers does not hold back with her writing."  Jennifer Malone Wright {Read More}

These are just a few of the reviews received over the last month and a half.  However, that's only a teeny tiny portion of the books out there with readers.  If you're a reader, and you've read Time for Death, here's your chance to get book 2 for free.

When Time for Death receives 50 reviews on Amazon I'll put Kill Me Next Week (book 2) on sale for FREE!  And if you haven't read Time for Death yet, what are you waiting for?  It's only $0.99, everyday, on Amazon and B&N. Go grab you copy and get to it.  :)

Vacation? Was that vacation?

I made it.  I'm home from a week vacation.  Now I'm wondering if that was a vacation after all.  Why is it we come home more exhausted than before we left?  Eek!

We had a great time.  Loads of tanning, swimming, bike riding, walking trails, and a little bit of relaxing.  I was hoping for a whole lot more relaxing, but what can you do when you have kids and a husband who think vacation means go-go-go?

I did manage to click a good many nature pictures to inspire me for the next Liz Baker book, which I'm anxious to jump into ASAP.

Before we'd even started vacation--I hadn't even checked us into the campground yet--I twisted my left foot and ankle, went down on my right knee, and set the entire mood for my week.  Ouch!  It's been over a week and I'm still healing from that mishap.  I hobbled around all week, but didn't let it stop me, and I have a nice tan to prove it!  :D

As much fun as we had, I was extremely glad to make it home Saturday afternoon.  I spent the rest of that day and Sunday doing laundry. A week of no washer with five people = OMG look at that laundry!!

Now that I've recovered from vacation I'm looking forward to getting back to work, getting the kids prepared for a new school year, and going to New Orleans for the Undead Con and Anne Rice Wolf Gift Ball.  Woohoo!  :)

And the winners are...

Congratulations to Brandy, Lori, and Crystal!  They are the winners of the June blog tour giveaway.  Three Liz Baker books and two e-books were given away, and I hope you ladies enjoy the books.

Next up for me...  VACATION!  Woohoo!  I'll be leaving Sunday for a week of fun in the sun with my hubby and the girls.  Oh, and Rex the Chihuahua and Spike the Boston Terrier.  ;)

We'll be spending a week camping, swimming, grilling, sightseeing, relaxing, and possibly some mini golfing.  Can you guess that I'm looing forward to it?  LOL!  I haven't been out of town since February, for the Book 'Em conference.  It was fun, don't get me wrong, but it was work nonetheless.

Next up will be my middle daughter's 12th birthday party, touring a local historical site that will be in the next Liz Baker book, then school starting back, and then....

The Undead Conference and Anne Rice's Wolf Gift Ball in New Orleans in October.  Yay!

All in all, it's going to be a busy four or five months, and that's before the holidays come around again.  LOL.  It'll be crazy, but a lot of fun.

I'm sure many of you have already heard about the fun that is Pinterest.  For those of you that haven't, OMG!  Why the hell not?!

Just kidding.  :)

Pinterest is a really cool site that becomes mildly addictive (you've been warned) the longer you're on it.  First off, you create an account, then build "boards."  You fill (pin) these boards with pictures and videos of things that interest, intrigue, motivate you.  These boards are shared with your friends, who may repin your pictures as things that interest, intrigue, motivate them.

It's a continuous cycle of sharing ideas.  And I love it!

I pin photos of my dogs, our gardening adventures, the follies of raising chickens, backyard ideas, places I've traveled and places I'd like to travel to, and even organizational ideas for around the house.

How does that pertain to author life, you might ask.  Well, aside from pinning my books, I pin books of friends, photos that motive me to write, author inspirational quotes, locations that I might like to use for book settings, etc.

Just yesterday, I created two new boards:  Liz Baker's Crazy Life and Athena's Ambrosia.

Those of you who read my Liz Baker books will definitely enjoy these boards.  Though not very full at this moment, I am hoping to pin dozens upon dozens of pictures that relate to the book series.  I even have plans for a Chad board, ladies!  We both know you wanna see Chad in all his ex-cop hotness.  Mmmm...

If you're already on Pinterest stop by and follow (I like to follow back).  If you're not on Pinterest, what the heck are you waiting for?  :D

Have a lovely Wednesday!

Free Liz Baker Read

For all you Liz Baker fans I have a little short story that gives you some insight on Liz's elderly neighbor, MaryAnne Patterson.  She looks like a sweet little Southern lady on the outside, but she harbors a dark secret on the inside.  Well, really, the secret is hidden in her spare bedroom.  ;)

Download your copy of Death Reflected today on http://www.christiesilvers.com/shortsstories.htm .

Death Reflected coming soon

After finishing up book 3 in the Liz Baker series, Killer Intentions, I had an idea to throw out a short story about Liz's interesting elderly neighbor, MaryAnne Patterson.  She has been Liz's neighbor for a while now and is always happy to step in to pick up the mail and care for Liz's cat, Tara, when Liz is away.  But there was always something mingling in the back of my mind, something not quite normal about Mrs. Patterson.

Death Reflected is the story of how Liz found out the deep, dark, hidden secret MaryAnne hoped no one would ever figure out.  This story will be a freebie for all my Liz Baker fans.  Once completed, I'll post it free of charge on the website and let you know of it's availability.

Keep in mind that Death Reflected should be read AFTER Killer Intentions.  The scene actually happens in the middle of Killer Intentions, but is only mentioned ever so slightly during a sleepy-time chat between Liz and Chad.  Just enough to give me the lead in for the short story.

I'll post more about it when the editing is done and the e-cover is ready for viewing.  :)

New review for the Liz Baker series.

Good reviews always make an author happy, but usually they are reviews for single books.  This time I received a review for the entire Liz Baker series, thus far.  Check out what Author Robin Renee Ray has to say about her enjoyment of Liz's life and the people around her.  :)

"I have been a Fan of the Liz Baker series and her walk from being the non-caring bar owner to being the owner of a large estate that she inherited when a dear family friend passed. When she went from a normal state of life where hanging with friends and having flings with the same long time bud with benefits was what completed her existence. Then, of course, he came in the mist of the quake that had fallen on her world, the one who walked the night and sought more than just the blood in her veins.

Liz took the life of the one who allured her into the darkness, and saved a man that later took her heart. In this book, you see where the two have traveled and how much Liz’s journey into the world of the unknown has taken them. The things she finds out are nothing compared to finding out that she herself was half vampire, child of the one who sent the night walker to allure her to the dark side in books one and two. Even her deceased mother, who came to her aid when needed, was not as shocking as what she discovers in, Killer Intentions.

I can’t just recommend this book, without saying read them all. It is a complete tale of intrigue, deceit, paranormal in both the vampire world as well as the mystical, and the pivotal growth of romance is insurmountable. Liz not only develops as a woman, but her powers in the field of magic, that she is only on the very edge of learning, is developing faster than any can explain. Christie Silvers is taking her characters on a rapid running river of excitement in every area. If I could give this series more than a 5Star, I would be the first to do it!"
