Ascending from Hell is LIVE!

It's the big day! Ascending from Hell is now available everywhere! I'm very excited to get the second installment of Carina and Devon's lives out there. It was a fun story to write, and I will admit I shed some tears at times.

Release Day: Battling Sorrow (Penny, Bk 2)

Today's the big day! Battling Sorrow, the second book in the Penny Montague series, finally released today. It's been six years since Devastating Sorrow (book 1) came out, so this has been a long time coming.

In this newest installment we open with Penny on the search for witches in need of protection and education. Over the last couple of years she's been hard at working trying to slowly introduce witches into the immortal community without the centuries of prejudices they've hid from for so long. And then the Elders' Court sends her to bring in a young girl whose powers have been accidentally put on display for the world to see.

Can Penny bring the child in and keep her safe from the Faction that only wants to destroy all witches in existence?

Blurb

Immortality hasn’t been all it’s cracked up to be for Penelope Montague. She’s suffered a loss no mother should ever have to experience, and though she begged for death to take her, life turned in another direction, bringing happiness once more. Unfortunately, life can’t always be sunshine and flowers, even for an immortal.

Penny’s work to bring witches into the light of immortals seems to move along smoothly, though not as quickly as she’d like, until videos fly around the internet of a little girl with extra special powers. The humans aren’t supposed to know about them, at least not yet, so the Elders’ Court sends Penny and her team to retrieve the child and her mother to hide her away for their own safety.

The Faction is hot on their tails, and Penny has to protect this child at all costs. Even if that means risking the lives of those she loves. Immortality and witchcraft don’t always work well together, especially when there are people in the world whose only joy is to torment and experiment on someone with powers, and the ability to heal repeatedly. She won’t let that happen to this child. There’s something special about her, and it’s more than just her powers.

Life will never be the same for any of them after meeting little Abby Newman.

Review Request (I might be begging!)

Good morning, lovely readers! I hope the week is treating you kindly, and that everyone close to you is staying safe and healthy.

This week I have a request from all of you that have read my books, and I hate to ask it, but reviews are the bread and butter of an author's life. We need them to sell more books, rank higher on book selling sites like Amazon, and even to gain a little "Hmm" from higher ups in the publishing world who may be interested in doing more with our books.

It's a necessity in the book world, and even I'm bad about not rushing over to leave reviews right after finishing a book, but I'm determined to do better. It was actually one of my goals for 2020. :)

I know I have a lot of readers just from the comments, emails, PMs, texts, phone calls, and every day life, so please consider taking a few minutes of your time and leaving a quick review on any/all of the books you've read. It means the world to me when someone does.

While you're over on the Amazon Author page, take a second and hit that "+Follow" button to make sure you get up-to-date info from Amazon. :)

Thanks, everyone! Know that I appreciate every one of you. <3

Ready to start the Liz Baker series? Book 1 is FREE!

Happy Friday, readers! I hope you're all doing well in this crazy, unstable world we're living in. I'm still at home for a few more days. I'll head back to the day job next week after almost three months quarantined in preparation of the arrival of our grandson. Now that he's two weeks old (in two days), it's time to get back to business. Plus my work people are missing me! :D

In the meantime, I'm working on the 8th book in the Liz Baker series, newsletters, blog posts, social media updates, and even doing some work with my life coaching clients. All of that is, of course, aside from my baby cuddling duties as new Gammie on the block!

With all that said, I wanted to share that I have put Time for Death (Liz Baker, bk 1) up for free download during the summer. I don't know how long I'll let this go on, but for the time being I don't have a date to stop it. I guess we'll see how many downloads it gets before I decide on a stopping point. So, if you haven't started the series now is definitely the time to do so.

Just click the image above and it'll take you straight to the book's page. I've been trying out BookFunnel for book downloads the last few weeks and I'm liking it a lot. I've seen tons of other authors use it, and have downloaded books from it in the past, so it was only logical to try it out for myself.

I hope you'll take advantage and try out this series. Liz has a bit of a wild side, and sometimes I just wanna smack her good on the back of the head! Be warned: Adult Language & Adult Content run rampant in this series (and all my books). I don't want anyone grasping pearls saying they weren't informed.

I hope you're all safe and healthy in these trying times. Much love to all my readers out there worldwide!

The Trials of a Book Series

So, I've come to realize that picking up a series after two years leaves a massive need to reread all the books that came before. I'm working on book 7 in the Liz Baker series and realized I've forgotten a lot of the small details. I have a character database, but apparently I wasn't as detailed as I should have been. Not to mention, all the plots and subplots that are still working their way through the series. EEK!

I sat down and went through my notes on each book, but those aren't as helpful as you'd think since a lot time my stories take their own twists and turns... away from my notes. I'm really going to have to sit down, starting with book 1, and go through each on making new notes of what came before. I'd hate to disappoint readers by contradicting what was said in one book, or by not tying up loose ends before the series is over. And I certainly don't want to change the descriptions of all the hotties in those books. Heck no!

And here's where you guys come in.....

If you saw a plot or subplot in one of the books that you feel hasn't already been addressed or finished, please, let me know. If there's a character you'd like to see more of, of possibly know more about, let me know. Email me, message me on Facebook, or leave a comment here. One way or another I'll see your message and see what I can do about addressing you suggestion. In the meantime, I'm going back to the previous books to see what I can dig up. And maybe a better database is in order in case this problem arises again.  :D

Liz Baker Series Book 7 Under Way

So, as many of you know, I'm currently working on the seventh book in my Liz Baker series. I just started this one so I'm still fleshing out the ideas and plot points, but I finally wrote that first sentence (and page), and I know where the first chapter is going. Woohoo!

I'm not much of a planner when it comes to my stories. I start with a general idea of what I want to say and where I want the characters to end up at, and then I fill in the blanks one page at a time. Sometimes the characters do what I plan for them to do, and then other times they scoff at my ideas and go wherever the hell they want to go whether I want them to or not. I tried planning out an entire book once, chapter by chapter, scene by scene, with the ending ready and waiting for me to get the words on paper. And then my characters had other plans...

Nothing I planned happened! The characters laughed at me, pointed and called me names as they moved about the story line at their own pace and did whatever they wanted to do. That's when I knew I wasn't a planner when it comes to my books. The characters won't allow it.

As for Liz Baker, I've had the opening to book 7 in my head since the end of book 6. I knew how I wanted it to begin, and all I had to do was get back to this series and start writing. It's the rest of the story I don't know yet. LOL!  Thankfully though, Liz is a strong-willed character and she will eventually show me the way of her world once more.

It's been a while since book 6 came out at the end of 2014. Eek! I didn't even realize it has been that long until I just typed that. Wow! I've had a crazy few years. Nonetheless, I've already released a new book and a short story this year, and Liz's new story is next up. I'm hoping (fingers crossed & powerful magic dust everywhere) this story will release in late August/early September. If it all works out, that will leave me just enough time to get to the second book in my Penny Montague series before 2017 is over.

Wish me luck & keep reading!

Release Day!

It's finally here! Woohoo! Release Day for Devastating Sorrow has arrived and I'm so happy to share it with all of you.

This is the first book in my new Penny Montague series. However, I think my Liz Baker fans out there will enjoy it just as much. There's even a little hinty hint at possibly a future meeting between the two women. ;)

This was a book almost two years in the making. I started writing it a month before my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. Once her diagnosis came in and I was taking her for doctor appointments, chemo, transfusions, radiations, and all the other stuff that cancer involves, I had to put my work aside to focus solely on her. It took almost six months after her passing for me to pick up the story, again. Today is more of a release for me than just putting Devastating Sorrow out into the world. It's a sigh of relief. It's a point in time where I can relax and finally, after all the struggles we dealt with, say, "It's over." This book release is a cleansing, of sorts, for my writing palate, and I'm ready to move on to the next project. :)

If you're a subscriber to the newsletter you've already received the first chapter this morning. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm still waiting the paperback to go live (it might take a few days), but the eBook is ready for your attention...

Description:

Witch and ex-military, Penny Montague is sick of her immortal life. Working as a phone sex operator to occupy her time and keep in touch with her humanity, she spends her days trying to find a way to end her long, lonely existence and her nights pretending to care about men with mommy issues, strange fantasies, and twisted imaginations.

Life wasn't always this bad though. When Penny's ninety-two year old son, Charlie, dies in her arms the crushing reality of her long life truly hits her. What else is there to live for without her son? She's ready to give it all up, and has tried multiple times, when her brother, Byron, shows up on her doorstep, trouble on his tail as always. It wasn't until armed guards burst into her home, drag her from her bed, and throw them both into the dungeons of Midnight Manor that Penny realizes this is much worse than Byron's normal scheming.

Midnight Manor is the control center of all immortals, run by an elite group called The Elders' Court. Nothing happens in the world without Midnight Manor having their fingers in the pot. They raise and educate immortal children from an early age and place them throughout the world in positions beneficial to their causes, both present and future. There isn't anything that happens, be it war, arms trades, or scientific achievement, that Midnight Manor doesn't influence.

Penny retired from the Midnight Manor military nearly a century before, but now, in order to save her brother from being tortured for the rest of his immortal life because he slept with the wrong man's wife, The Elders' Court gives Penny the choice to hunt down and return a runaway scientist or risk a fate worse than death and join her brother in the torture chambers for eternity.

Penny, with the help of a few people from her past, decides to at least attempt the retrieval. After all, according to The Elders' Court, the scientist is a danger to all immortals and his research must be returned. Tracking was her specialty during her time in the service.

This should be an easy in and out kind of mission with only a couple of days of work involved. Right?

Crossover Stories

Jean Scheijen
FreeImages.com
Do you like crossovers? Television does it quite often, and now movies do it (think Marvel). Taking characters from one favorite show and throwing them into the world, live, and problems of another favorite show is something I truly enjoy.

I like to see these independent characters, who always deal with their own stuff, interacting with characters from another location who are now asked to deal with the first characters' stuff, too. So what about books? I've seen it happen a few times between a single author's multiple book series, as well as two or more authors bring their characters into a joint venture. I like it, especially when I've read the previous books that are mentioned. It's like an ah-ha moment when you recognize a character you already know in a place you didn't expect to see them.

With all that being said, I'm considering a crossover with characters from my Liz Baker series in my new Penny Montague series. As I'm writing this first book I feel a natural progression toward making mentions of the vampires and werewolves currently residing in the north Georgia mountains (i.e. Liz and Monty).  Penny resides in the Atlanta area, but you'll find her on a mission that leads her farther north. Soooo.... maybe?

What do you think about crossovers in books?

My Current Work in Progress

A big thanks to author P. M. Terrell for tagging me into this Author Event. I'm always up for sharing more about what I'm working on. Sometimes I just don't have time to do it. To participate I have to answer 10 questions about my current work in progress, and then invite five more authors to carry the event forward the next week.

So here we go...

10 Questions About My Work in Progress

1. What are you working on now?
I'm currently working on the fourth book in my Liz Baker series, Haunted by Death. This story takes Liz deeper into the paranormal world she was pretty much shoved into kicking and screaming. Being a dhampiresa (half vampire, half human) isn't as fun as you'd think it would be.

2. Can you give us a sneak peek into the story?
At the end of Killer Intentions, Liz is recovering from an abduction by one of her many half-siblings. Her birth father, Gregory, has decreed that Liz will come to him of her own free will, or not at all. Leaving Liz fuming and determined such a thing will NEVER happen. Haunted by Death picks up with the funeral of her attorney-slash-friend, Jim Conrad. After the funeral, Liz comes home to her current roommates, Monty the werewolf and Aimee, another half-sibling who previously tried to murder her.  Yeah, it's a jumble of craziness and extreme stress for our spunky heroine.

3. Why did Liz let Aimee move in with her?
Aimee is another half-vampire, half-human child born of their mutual birth father, and vampire, Gregory. In book 3 we learned that Gregory has fathered several children with human women and he's now attempting to pull his offspring into his dangerous clutches. However, with Liz determined to stay as far away from him as she can, Gregory sent Aimee to "convince" her to come to him. Aimee took it upon herself to use a gun. In the end, Liz, Chad, and Monty decide it's safer for Liz and Aimee if they take her under their wings and protect her, instead of sending her back to Gregory. Thus, Aimee living in Liz's guest room.

4. Why is Liz so reluctant to be taken in by her birth father?
Gregory is evil. Pure evil. Evil with a snide, sneaky side. He seems to want to rule the world, but hasn't really said exactly what he plans to do with all of his children. He wants Liz to come to him, but never tells her why. All of the signs point to some sort of evil world domination, and Liz wants nothing to do with that. Everywhere Gregory goes death seems to follow. Just look at all the death and pain Marcus left behind in book one when Gregory sent him to retrieve Liz. Poor Rick will never forget being strung up and nearly drained to death.

5. Speaking of Rick, will he manage to find happiness now that he's no longer Liz's bed-buddy?
After having a rough time in book 3, Rick seems to have pulled himself out of a slump and moved forward with his life in Haunted by Death. There will be a surprising turn of events for our sweet Rick. He might want to have that tattoo of Liz's astrological sign lasered off soon.  ;)

6. What happens with the "staff" at Adele's estate?
The staff will definitely make an appearance in book 4. Liz's new attorney is trying to convince her it would be best if she moved to the estate and took advantage of all her new found wealth allows her. Liz, however, refuses to leave her home and business. Her bar, Athena's Ambrosia, is her life, her home, and the one thing that centers her back into the normal human world when the paranormal world closes in around her.

7. Can't her bar staff take care of the bar while she's away?
Oh yes, most definitely. Liz has some very trustworthy people on staff who are always ready to help out when she needs it, but Liz is an independent woman who thinks she needs no one. She wants to do it herself, to make herself feel needed and productive.

8. Will we see more monsters in book 4?
Yes! Book four will have the usual vampires, werewolves, and demons we've come to love (or hate) in the previous three books, but this time we'll have a dash of ghosts thrown in. There's nothing like a ghost to disrupt a good time. :)

9. Where will the ghosts be?
A big event will be held at a local historic site in Haunted by Death. An old homeplace-slash-historic hotel full of old furnishings, clothes, and personal items from occupants long gone is the back drop for this event. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you like at like I do), these items also hold their owners' spirits locked in turmoil. **An author's side note: I promised the local historical society that I wouldn't burn down the hotel in my story. So no fires or magical explosions in this book. LOL! **

10. Will there be more books in the Liz Baker series?
The answer is a resounding YES! I have many future books planned for Liz. She has far to many adventures to go on for us to stop now. Besides, she's too darn cocky to let me just ignore her and write something else.  ;)

Look for Haunted by Death (Liz Baker, book 4) in late October.

New Time for Death, Second Edition

Good morning, everyone. I hope the week is treating you kindly. I'm currently working on the Liz Baker short story, Death Reflected, and waiting on my Federal tax refund to show up. We'll be working on home improvements over the next few weeks with that money. As well as knocking some away into savings.

Speaking of improvements, I'm releasing a second edition of Time for Death (Liz Baker, book 1) just in time for the Book 'Em NC Conference & Book Fair. Something eye-catching and up to date with books 2 and 3.

This new cover looks even more gorgeous in print than it does on the computer screen. Once again, due to the incredible talents of my cover designer Kelly Shorten. Thank you, Kelly!

The first edition of Time for Death is on the road to retirement and over the next several weeks will be replaced in book databases by this new edition. I know the Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords editions are already up-dated, but it will take a bit longer for the print copies to change over.

And as always, if you want a signed copy for yourself, or for gift giving, they are always available straight from me via ChristieSilvers.com.

Now I'm off to do the whole wife/mother thing with laundry, dishes, housecleaning, before jumping into today's writing. Have a good one!

Get Time for Death for only $0.99!

Good morning friends.  Welcome to July!  Can you believe June is already over?  I know I can't.  July will be a busy month for me, but I wanted to do something for my beloved readers.

If you're interested in picking up a copy of Time for Death (Liz Baker, book 1) now is definitely the time to do so.  During the month of July you can pick up Time for Death on Kindle or Nook for only $0.99.

Here are a few of the nice things that have been said about Liz Baker:

"The main character, Liz, is a strong, independant woman with just the right amount of vulnerability. Her male friends are sweet yet uber-sexy. Christie keeps you on the edge of your seat, always wanting to know what happens next." -- Sherie Anderson -- Amazon

"I loved Liz, she is a great character, just enough sass, strength, and a touch of baggage." -- Bryan Curry, Hellmouth Podcast

"Her entire world is rolling in the onslaught of twisted circumstances that keeps you on the sharpened edge of that dangerous blade of anticipation." -- Robin Renee Ray

"Ms. Silvers has outdone herself yet again." -- Mind Fog Reviews

You can read the complete reviews on the Liz Baker page.

Now, get on over there and pick up your copy while the gettin's good.  ;)

Reading a book series in order

I love reading books that are in a series. I like being able to get a more detailed knowledge about the characters and their world with each additional book. And of course I like writing series books.

My question is: Do you expect a book in the middle of the series to explain, in detail, things that happened in all th book that came before it? Or are you good with passing mentions of previous events as it pertains to the book you're currently reading?

The reason I ask is that I noticed some bad reviews on the book I'm currently reading only because it didn't explain past events in the series and "expected" the reader to already know their details.

Personally, I find this ridiculous. I'm on book 3 in this series and I know all about the previous events because...now this is a doozy...I READ THE TWO BEFORE IT! OMG! Yes, you're suppose to read books in order when they're in a series. I thought everyone knew this little tidbit of information. So why in the world would someone give a book a bad review because it didn't tell you what you should already know before you started reading the book? Sheesh!

Now, if anyone out there thinks this way, and want to try their hand at reading my series books, just don't do it out of order. I don't write that way. I will mention past things/people/events as it pertains to the current story and will NOT explain it in full detail. Liz will say something like, "Marcus, my ex vampire lover who I just so happen to have stacked and burned his body in a mountain cabin." She will NOT go into greater detail talking about how Marcus murdered so & so, or how he said this and that, or how the cabin smelled/looked before she burned it down. Why? Because none of that pertains to the current story. If you want to know all that then you should have read book 1 before reading book 3.

To me, it just makes sense.

I don't get the bad reviews about this nonsense. Seriously, have some people gotten this lazy in their reading habits? *Shakes head in amazement*
