I figure that I'd better get this done now, since there is a scheduled outage here on Blogger this evening. I'd hate to be in the middle of this when the outage happens. So here's my Thursday Thirteen for this week. The topic is....
Thirteen Things That I've Done Today:
1. Washed, dried, & put away 2 loads of laundry.
2. Emptied & refilled the dishwasher.
3. Spent a few hours making some changes & updating my website.
4. Trained our dog to "heel". His pulling at the leash is getting annoying.
5. Ate a healthy lunch with my toddler.
6. Planned a healthy dinner (that doesn't always happen).
7. Visited with my grandmother.
8. Picked up my middle daughter from school.
9. Came home for less than an hour and then went back to pick up my oldest daughter from school (she had chorus practice today).
10. Played with my toddler, so that she wouldn't be glued to the tv all day (that happens sometimes when Mommy has work to do).
11. Chatted with some friends, replied to emails, and did general, everyday internet stuff.
12. Helped my middle daughter with her homework.
13. Lastly, I will get all three girls bathed, pajamaed, and ready for bed, ON TIME tonight.
Today was generally a boring, nothing special kind of day. But, we need those types of days to break up the busy, stressful, not-enough-time days. This weekend will be a busy one for me, so I'll take a peaceful Thursday anytime. :-)
If you're having a nothing special kind of day, stop by my website and check out the changes I made today. The pages are now wider and I've added a couple of new things (including a freebie wallpaper of A Birth at Dawn for anyone who wants it).

I'm bored...
Yes, I *should* be working on my book edits, but I'm not in the mood. I created a to-do list on Sunday, for all the things that I wanted/needed to get done this week. I've done them ALLLL, except the one at the top of the list that states "Edit 5 chapters each day".
Monday, I finished all 5 chapters. Tuesday, I got caught up chatting online with my friend, Mis. I went to bed still needing to finish 1 1/2 of Tuesday's chapters. Here it is, nearly noon, on Wednesday and I haven't even started on today's chapters OR the leftover ones from yesterday. LOL.
Yet, I'm bored. My house is clean. Lunch has been served. Laundry is washed. I even cleaned the girls' bathroom AND two ceiling fans.
I have an hour and a half before I have to go pick the big girls up at school. So, I *should* be working. But, I'm not. I'm watching Rachel Ray and playing online. LOL!
While I'm goofing off, my friend Mis made me two little goodies last night. These are what she calls "stamps" and are, apparently, all the rage. LOL!
Anyone who likes them, and would like to use them, is welcome to take them to add to your website. If you are linking them, please link to http://www.christiesilvers.com or this blog http://christiesilvers.blogspot.com .
If you do use them, please leave me a message and let me know where you're using the stamps. I'd love to see!! :-)
Ok, I'm leaving. I guess I better get to work. I can at least get the leftover chapters from yesterday done. I'll be back tomorrow with this week's Thursday Thirteen! I haven't decided what the topic will be yet, but there WILL be a topic. LOL!
Have a great Hump Day!

Don't skip to the end.
I'm an avid reader. I read all the time, whether it be an author that I've newly discovered, or something older that I've never gotten around to reading. I read magazines, newspapers, internet blogs and, of course, my own work.
So, as an avid reader, I have rules to how a book should be read. Any and all books should be read from front cover to back cover, in the exact order that it was written. I absolutely can not stand to see people reading a book and then watch them jump to the back page to see what happens. Noooooooo!!!!
Please, do not do this. A book is in the order that it's in for a purpose. You should read it that way.
My older daughters have turned into avid readers just like their mommy, and I couldn't be happier. But, not skipping to the end is something that I've had to teach them. Unfortunately, I still catch them doing it on occassion.
My oldest was reading the last Harry Potter book a few weeks ago and she came to me complaining about something that she didn't understand. Turned out that she had skipped to the end, from the middle of the book, and was mad about how things turned out.
Yet again, I had to explain to her that she needs to read the WHOLE book in order and then the ending would make sense to her. So when she finally finished the book and exclaimed that it now made sense, I used that moment to reinforce my rule of NO SKIPPING TO THE END!
For me, as an author, I find it highly insulting for someone to skip to the end of my books. Even more insulting if they do it right in front of me. So please, do not do that. If you do skip, do it in private and don't tell anyone. LOL!
This is just my random thought of the day. :-)

Lazy Saturday?
Um, no! I don't know where this list of things that have to be done right this minute came from. I have all of my chores, work, errands, etc. that need to be done during the normal work week. Then, on the weekends, my husband runs me to death with errands that--according to him--he NEEDS to do right now!
For example, we woke up this morning to a toddler with stomach issues. She is in the bathroom for most of the morning and we were dealing with numerous clothing and underclothing changes because of it. Well, the hubby decides that he MUST go to Walmart. It can't wait until tomorrow, it has to be done today.
Well, thankfully the toddler's stomach issues calmed down by lunchtime and we went to Walmart & Kmart & the local mall. By that time I'm frustrated to high heaven because my ankle is hurting and the toddler is throwing a tantrum because she wants to go home. So we head home.
We get home and my mom came to pick up the big girls for a night with Nana. Now that the big girls are gone, the hubby wants to go out to dinner. Fine, as long as it's just dinner.
Nope, we finish dinner and the hubby says, "Let's go to Walmart." OH MY HELL!
I don't think I've ever shared my hatred of going to Walmart with you guys and gals. I don't really hate going to Walmart. It's just that I hate going on the weekends and evenings. When I do go, it's always early, Friday mornings when everyone is at work.
I have this thing about big crowds in Walmart. I hate being in them and I rush through the store as fast as I can just to get the things I need.
Now, my husband knows this. He knows how much I hate going to a crowded Walmart. He knew that we'd already been once today. Does that matter? Hell no! He thinks he needs something so we go.
Turns out he didn't need a damn thing. He didn't buy anything. I bought a bag of dogfood because I remembered that we were low and since we were there anyway...
So, my question to you is... what's so special about Walmart that it makes some people feel the need to go strolling the SuperCenter every chance they get?
I go in, get what I need, and get out--even when it's not crowded. I just don't understand.
Now, I'm home, the toddler is asleep, the husband is playing a PS2 game, and the older two are at my mom's house. All is quiet right now, but I'm still pissed about the no-reason errands that I had to go on today. The hubby will certainly NOT be having any fun in the bedroom tonight... not without a LOT of back massaging and possibly a little alcohol in my bloodstream. >:-(

Christie's Thursday Thirteen
It's that time of the week again. I almost missed posting this today because I've been off a day all week due to the girls being out of school Monday for MLK Day. But, at the last minute it hit me and here I am. LOL!
Thirteen Things That Make Me Smile
1. The look of a sleeping toddler.
2. My husband kissing my neck.
3. The smell of cinnamon.
4. The sound of all three of my daughters laughing & playing together.
5. A clean house that didn't require me to lift a finger (that never happens, but WOULD make me smile).
6. Listening to my MP3 player so loudly that I won't hear a sound anyone makes. That's when the hubby has to tend to the children because I can't hear them! LMAO!
7. The first copy of a new book with my name on the cover. There's nothing like that feeling.
8. When my toddler runs up to me and says, "I want to hug you!"
9. When my toddler sings along to the radio with me. It's sooo funny to hear a 3 yr old signing "Sexy Back" by Justin Timberlake.
10. The first step into a steaming, hot shower... alone! Well, maybe that's more of an AHHHH instead of a smile. LOL
11. The sensation of my fingers flying across the keyboard because a scene in my book is just flowing out of me like water from a faucet. I love that feeling and I always smile when it's over!
12. When my 11 yr old daughter comes home from school and tells me about the woes of a preteen in today's society. I laugh everytime she gets flabbergausted at something a preteen boy has done that day. It is so funny!
13. The realization that LOST comes back on tv next week!! Woohoo!
There you have it! I'll be back tomorrow with a regular post. It's been one crazy week and I just haven't had time to put my days into words. Anyway, have a nice night!

A forced day off...
Today I've been forced to take a day off. The girls are out of school today, which means that I won't get anything work-related done today. We spent most of the morning in our pjs, curled up in front of the fireplace. It has been sooooo cold here in GA (14 degrees this morning).
Anyway, after a hugely busy weekend, I'v been forced to take a day off today. It's not so bad though. The girls have been pretty good, aside from the occassional arguement. I ran an errand and then we came back home.
I need to clean a bathroom, a kitchen, sweep, vacuum, and mop the floors, and make sure the bedrooms are clean. But, I might wait until tomorrow. LOL!
On another topic, I'm excited to share that we found the hubby a new car Saturday. His giant, gaz-guzzling truck conked out for the very last time last Monday and I have refused to put another penny into it. So, we left out at 9am Saturday morning, left the kids with the in-laws, and refused to come home until we found him something to drive.
So, 6 hours and $1200 later, we came home with a white, 4-door, 1992 Honda Accord. Tim has never had a car (always trucks), but he is so happy with it. He gave it a tune up and put his cd player and speakers in it yesterday. This morning he headed out on his 1hr drive to work in his very first car LOL!
I'm thrilled to pieces because of the gas money we will save. His old '89, full-size, Chevy pick-up ate up $100 a week in gas. This car should run us about $40 a week. Talk about saving money! YAY! Since he works an hour away, he's on the road for 2 hrs a day. Gas prices are a big concern in our house. Luckily, they are eased a little now. :-)
Ok, that's all for today. I'm off to enjoy my girls' fighting for a little while. I may just clean that bathroom after all. LOL!

The meaning of Christie
What Christie Means |
You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily. You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind. A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable. You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out. Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia. Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person. You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun. You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start. You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong. You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know. You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do. You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life. You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home. You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble. You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together. |
Thursday's Thirteen & Happy Birthday to ME!
Yep, today is my 31st birthday. I didn't want to turn 30, much less 31. UGH! But, the years keep coming, no matter how hard we try to slow them down. So, happy birthday to me!
Here's what you came for...
Thursday's Thirteen
I do...
1. I do make my children stand in the corner when they are in trouble.
2. I do love my husband more now than I did when we married almost 14 yrs ago.
3. I do things in bed that would make you blush (now go buy one of my books and see what I'm talking about, lol).
4. I do enjoy a good bowl of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Icecream on occassion.
5. I do sing along with music on the radio while I'm driving. If you ever see me driving by, my mouth will be wide open while I sing as loud as I can.
6. I do hate cleaning bathrooms. They are always last on my list of rooms to clean.
7. I do need a new laptop.
8. I do build a fire in the fireplace much quicker than the hubby can. LOL.
9. I do expect my husband & children to help around the house. They all have their own chores.
10. I do yell when my first three requests are ignored. It takes three times before my voices raises and everyone in the house knows that I mean business... NOW!
11. I do sleep late at every chance that I can get.
12. I do feel sleep-deprived, even after sleeping late.
13. I do enjoy many tv shows, but I DVR most of them and watch when I can find the time.
There you have it! That one was a little harder than the other ones. Now I'm off to take a shower, do my hair & makeup, and get ready to go out to lunch with my grandmother and youngest daughter for my birthday. Happy birthday to me!

Sleeping children....
What is it about a sleeping child that makes them seem so sweet and innocent? How about a sleeping puppy? Is it the expressionless face that isn't screaming and crying because they can't have a piece of cheese (because there is no more cheese in the fridge)? Or is it that they are quiet and you can finally stand back and enjoy your little one without a headache? LOL!
I've discovered that children and puppies are similar when they are sleeping. They aren't making a sound, they aren't tearing things up, they aren't demanding your undying attention and they just look peaceful and QUIET!
Our puppy is about 5 months old (we don't know for sure because he was a stray) and he's slowing going into his "terrible twos". Combine him with a human toddler, throw in an 11 yr old and a 7yr old, and watch my house explode with chaos. Then in walks daddy after a long day of work and an hour's drive home, while you're trying to cook dinner, making sure the older girls have their homework done, yelling for the dog to get down off the kitchen table and listening to the toddler letting you know (very loudly) that her favorite tv show went off. Then, you proceed to give the daddy your infamous look from hell when he asks what's for dinner.
Well, that's how most of my evenings turn out. After dinner, it's a rush to get everyone bathed and clothes laid out for the next day. Bedtimes for the kids start at 7pm and run up to 9pm. Finally, at 9pm you are child-free... only to realize that you're too tired to watch tv, read a book, edit your own book, or show any interest in the hubby whatsoever.
The bed is calling your name and your contacts are blurring from exhaustion. You crawl into bed, find just that perfect, confortable spot and then the hubby starts poking at you. You know what he wants, but you're too damn tired for his bullshit. So what do you do?
I tell him to screw off and I go to sleep! LOL! The poor, deprived man. LOL!
Anyway, what was I talk about? Oh yes, sleeping children and puppies. Yes, when they are sleeping they are peaceful and quiet. When they are sleeping YOU can sleep. When they are sleeping you can actually think straight... unless you're too tired by the time they go to sleep. LOL!
Ok, ok, I know. This entry is nothing but my rambling. But, I have to ramble somewhere. LOL! I promise tomorrow's entry will be a little more interesting. Tomorrow will be my Thursday's Thirteen post and the theme will be "13 Things That I DO". So check back tomorrow and see if I do anything interesting. LOL!

LOL!

Happy Birthday to my sweet girl!
Today is my youngest daughter's 3rd birthday. I can't believe that she is already three. Where did my baby go? *sniff* She is most likely my last child (she's the third), so it makes me a little sad that there won't be anymore babies in the house.
Here is a picture of the two of us from her birthday party this past Sunday.
Here's the hubby & his doll.
And here's our sweetie at only 1 day old.
On a separate note, the hubby's truck is dead. It conked out yesterday morning and I ended up having to go rescue him from sitting in it all alone an hour away from home. LOL. We had to have it towed home and now it's sitting in the driveway begging for me to unload a couple of shotgun rounds into it. LOL! I despise that awful thing and can't wait to see it being towed away from our house forever.
So now, we're in search of the next vehicle that he can abuse. I've set my foot down and told him NO MORE giant trucks. He will get something small this time... preferrably a car. He has finally agreed that we need to be more budget-friendly when it comes to these awful gas prices.
We spent hours yesterday driving around looking at vehicles and... nothing. So now, I have to go do some more looking before he comes home from work. Since he's working until 5:30pm everyday, even if we find something we won't be able to buy it until the weekend.
So, wish us luck! Hopefully we can find something sensible for a low price.
Happy Birthday, Kaitlyn!!!

Thursday Thirteen
Well, it's Thursday again. So here is my Thursday Thirteen list for today.
13 Things That I Don't...
1. I don't have a new vehicle.
2. I don't like my husband's truck.
3. I don't mind loud music.
4. I don't go more than one day without washing laundry.
5. I don't iron clothes if I can help it.
6. I don't wear high-heeled dress shoes. I have knee-high boots though.
7. I don't skate. Couldn't do it if my life depended on it. LOL!
8. I don't ride on motorcycles.
9. I don't like tomatoes, unless they are pureed and in a sauce or salsa.
10.I don't wear my natural haircolor if I can help it. It's a BLAH brown color, naturally.
11.I don't know why my children like to scream when I'm on the phone.
12.I don't know why my husband thinks I care anything about how many weeks, days & hours are left until Nascar racing begins again.
13.Lastly, I don't smoke, can't stand being around smoking people, and was absolutely thrilled when smoking was banned in public locations here in Georgia!!
Now that the list is completed, I wanted to ask a little question. I was working on a few tweaks to the blog this morning... made it a little bigger and fixed my header banner above... and I wanted to see if anyone noticed that the little black separation lines are gone. So, do you like it with the separation lines between the three sections or without, or does it not matter? LOL.
Ok, I guess that's it for today. Or maybe not!
I found out yesterday that I was nominated in the Preditors&Editors 2007 Author Readers Poll. So come on by and vote for me!! :-)
Just click here, http://critters.org/predpoll/author.shtml
Scroll down to my name & web addy "Christie Silvers" http://www.christiesilvers.com/
Click the little button thingy next to my name and then scroll down to the bottom and click the vote button.
You will have to comfirm your vote when they send you a confirmation email, so make sure to use a legitimate email addy.
Thank you to everyone who has voted or will be voting. I appreciate all of you more than you'll ever know and I was so surprised to see that I had been nominated. :-)
Have a great Thursday!!

Went shopping...
Today was a special shopping day for me. I went to bed last night with the idea that I was going to go spend some money on myself today. And that's exactly what I did this morning.
I received some Christmas money last month and didn't get to use it on myself, so I took the money I earned from a paying gig and spent that on myself. I purchased a new top, some phone time (I use a GoPhone because I can't justify the expense of a "regular" cell phone plan), and then I purchased a lot of low point food goodies for myself.
For anyone who knows me personally, they know that I've been doing the Weight Watchers Flex Plan ever since my youngest daughter was born. I've lost 103lbs with that plan. Well, over the holidays I decided to forego the plan and just enjoy (read: indulge) myself. But, now that the new year has begun I'm right back on plan and I needed some fresh goodies and snacks for myself.
It was weird being off plan for two months. After all this time being on the program my body is just use to eating less food than the normal person. I was sooooo sick over Thanksgiving and Christmas just from eating too much food. I would go to bed feeling awful and wishing that I hadn't eaten so much.
Now that I'm back on plan I feel so much better. More energy during the day (and night *wink, wink*) and I'm not feeling so BLAH.
But, with eating healthier you have to make sure that you stock healthy foods. I hate when I run out of MY foods and have to eat the foods that DH & the kids eat. Makes me feel awful. And I'll not even start on going out for lunch with the in-laws every Sunday. UGH!
So, I bought myself a new top and some low calorie/points goodies. Oh and I ran by the video store and rented a movie that I want to watch. DH has already said he doesn't want to watch it, so it's for ME.
I bought my first package of tofu today also. I've always wanted to try it, but DH absolutely refuses to try it, so I've never bought any. Well, today I did. AND I plan on trying it out. I've already told the girls about it and they seem interested in trying tofu also. So we'll see how that goes. You never know, I may end up sneaking some in on DH one day and we find out that he likes it too. LOL!
Ok, I guess that's all for today. Stay tuned tomorrow for my Thursday's Thirteen topic, "13 Things I Don't..."
Until then, have a great Hump Day! :-)
P.S. Oh, if anyone wants to see my before and after pics, there is a link on the left column (down a little ways) that says How I Lost 103lbs. Just click it and it will take you to my interview with GoodHousekeeping.com. :-)

Back to school!
YAY! My older children went back to school this morning. The house is so quiet right now. My toddler is watching her favorite morning cartoon, the dog is in his room, the laundry is washing, and I just finished vaccuming... and it's only 8:30am. I still need to clean the kitchen up, but I'll do that in a few minutes. Today is starting out to be a great, productive day!
I will work on my book edits all week and hopefully be close to finished by the end of the week. Then, I'll have to go through it again. LOL!
I also need to get my daily workout done, sometime this morning. It makes me feel good afterwards, but I still end up having to force myself to do it. You'd think that after almost three years of active weight loss, I'd be used to the exercising part. Oh well, maybe one of these days. LOL!
O, I'm outta here. I wish you a happy Monday and I hope that you have great success in this first, full week of 2008!

Thursday Thirteen
Well, I thought that I'd instigate some new things on my blog for 2008. I've seen a lot of people doing themes on different days of the week and I really liked the Thursday Thirteen. So I thought I'd try it out and see if I can come up with 13 things about myself to share each week. Here's the first thirteen, and they took me a while to come up with. LOL!
1. I like to watch soap operas, but only the ones on CBS.
2. I speed when I drive... ALWAYS. LOL
3. I like to listen to my music as loud as I can... especially while driving.
4. I love the Sci-Fi channel.
5. I hate talking on the phone.
6. I usually love movies that other people hate.
7. I have blue eyes, as do all three of my daughters.
8. I don't like Facebook, even though I have a page there.
9. I curse and scream at idiot drivers.
10. A certain middle finger gets used toward idiot drivers.
11. I would never want to be 16 again... NEVER!
12. I got married at the age of 17 and had my first child at 19.
13. I should be working on my book.
So there you have it, thirteen things about me. Now let's see if I'll be able to come up with thirteen more next week. LOL!

Back to work...
Well, it's the 2nd day of January and that means that it's time to get back to work for many people all across the country. My poor husband had to go back to work at 4:30am this morning, after not going to bed until 12:20 last night because he was watching a football game. I better not hear one smidgen of whining when he gets home because he's tired. He'll receive absolutely no sympathy from me. LOL!
I had to get back to work today, also. I sent out my January newsletter this morning and I cleaned the house more than it had been cleaned in the last few weeks. I'm still working on edits for the new book and looking for just the right ending... I am getting close to that ending though.
The next two books are just screaming for me to start writing them, but I just can't until I'm finished with A Birth at Dawn -- that's just how I am. I HAVE to finish one project before I start on another one (or two), but that doesn't stop the urge for more from creeping into my thoughts late at night. Once a story wants to be written there just isn't much you can do to deny its existance. It requires your time, attention, and nourishment until you've given your all, and then it's sitting in front of you asking to be edited while the next book is in the back of you rmind screaming to be released. Then the neverending cycle begins again.
I love my books and I love that the ideas come so easily right now, but it sure would be nice if I could come up with some article ideas these days. I haven't written one article since October. Yes, I spent the month of November writing a book and then I took December off to just BE, but it's January now and still the only thing on my mind is family and all the things I NEED to be doing. LOL. Oh well, maybe next month!
Well, when I logged into my Blogger account, I didn't know what this entry would be about. Seems like it took on a life of its own and now I sit here with a completed blog post for today. YAY! Now I'm off to get a little housework done, wait on the hubby to come home from work, and then deal with dinner. Luckily the older two girls went to spend the night with my mom and the baby will go to bed at 7pm. Should make for a quiet evening once the hubby falls asleep on the couch from exhaustion. LOL!
I hope that everyone is staying warm and didn't have to work too hard today. Have a nice Hump Day!
